The 'Blue Riband' of jump racing - resulting in a fabulous trophy win (not a chocolate bicuit!)

Brief History
The 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup will be held at 15.20 on Friday, March 16th, 2012.
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom open to horses aged five years or older. The race is held on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of 3 miles and 2½ furlongs (5,331 metres), over twenty-two fences.

The first horse race known as the Cheltenham Gold Cup took place in July 1819. It was a flat race, and it was contested over 3 miles on Cleeve Hill, which overlooks the present venue. The inaugural winner, Spectre, won a prize of 100 guineas. Today, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the most valuable non-handicap chase in Britain, with a purse of £500,000 ($786,000, Euro 600,000)
AC Silver Tips
I can't offer punters any tips as to which horse may win, (though I hear Long Run is viewed as a favourite), but I do know which items here at AC Silver that are sure to be personal winners:

First past the post must be this vintage salver (supported on three hoof feet - no pun intented!!).
What a fabulous way to present the winner's glass of champagne.
A close second is certainly this antique enamel and sterling silver cigarette case, which would be sure to impress if brought out on Race Day!

The artwork handpainted on the enamel cover is amazingly lifelike (although I think, looking at the horses faces , these three shown must be from the same mare!!)

Finally, for those of you who are too busy to leave the office, you can enter into the spirit of all things horsey by keeping your mail neat and well presented in this Chester made letter clip
Now who could say nay (neigh - get it?) to that proposal?
So, if you find you've backed a winner on Gold Cup Day, look no further than our diverse (and occasionally unusual)horse related collection to mark you day.
